Before moving north, it hadn't crossed her mind whether or not the dog would cope.

As she was yanked, red-faced, down towards the waterfront, people would stop, crouch down and speak to her through the dog. That tedious routine. God, she hated it.

Siberian Huskies can adapt to all climates, she’d answer them, sweat trickling down between her legs.

She knew that now.

Then Jono would complain, again, about the humidity triggering his asthma.

Just leave already, she would imagine telling him. Darwin was your idea.

It was too hot to talk.
