Lily Pads by Sky Carrall

We were at his birthday picnic when my brother asked if it was possible to walk on top of lily pads. I looked up at the sky, filled with bruised clouds. The weather has always impacted my mood. This, combined with the fact that pass the parcel had just finished and all I’d gotten was a sherbet necklace, while he’d gotten a real toy (a Ninja Turtle, which I didn’t even like, but that wasn’t the point) determined my answer to his question. I don’t think I should’ve been blamed for the whole thing; all I did was whisper yes.
