Black Card Fever Dream by Rohini Alexandra

I tremble with anticipation.

I’ve waited my whole life.

He moves closer.

I’m enveloped in a heady cocktail of aftershave and fabric softener.

I see the thread count on his shirt.

I stare at his cufflinks.

I look up and meet his gaze.

His lips part.

Things are about to get first-class.

‘It’s a dream,’ he says.

‘I know right,’ I say, stroking his tie.

‘I meant this is your recurring dream.’

‘Are you sure?’

‘Yes, I’m not a real person’, he says, running his fingers through his hair, which drops back into place.

I tremble with anticipation.
